Google Analytics
Website: http://www.google.com/analytics/
Google Analytics gives detailed analysis using different methods.
Example, in charts, graphs etc.
The video above gives a general explanation of how it works.
With the Google Analytics, the organisation can track on the number of visitors that visited their website.
It is also an easier way to collect their statistics for daily, weekly, monthly and yearly.
Case Study of Google Analytics and The American Cancer Society.
The link below is an article in the Google Analytics website that shows how Google Analytics has helped the American Cancer Society track their visitors and how it ” helps us use our dollars more wisely for our mission and helps us make sure our constituents are meeting their goals, which is very important to us.”

Reflection:
Through this research, I found out more of the usefulness of the Google and realized that Google was not just a search engine itself. I also have a better understanding of the Google Anlytics through the case study of The American Cancer Society.
Final Project Findings – Viral Marketing
VIRAL MARKETING IS ..
“Marketing phenomenon that facilitates and encourages people to pass along a marketing message”
quotation from http://www.marketingterms.com/dictionary/viral_marketing/
Viral Marketing is a very good strategy of spreading information in a fast and efficient way.
One of the ways that can help viral marketing is through micro-blogging, for example, Twitter.
How does it work?
For example, in Twitter:
Girl A tweets a messsage about the organisation and all her follwers saw the message.
Out of the many followers, 5 of them like it and decided to re-tweet the message.
then the movement continues and slowly more and more people will get to know about the message about the organisattion by a short period of time.
Final Project – prototype
Click here for a preview of our prototype : Doc1
Our prototype was the Home page of a revamped SOS website.
As the old website is made of Flash Player, with a very nice animations, it is not that well organised although there are navigation.
In our prototype, we made the website into web 2.o where the web is more in order with the addition of social media tools such as the facebook and twitter icon.
On the Home page of the website (our prototype), we placed the more important information about the organisation so as to made easier for the readers to have the rough knowledge of the organisation just by the Home page.
we also made the Home page more concise and scannable.
Reflection:
Throughout the process of creating the prototype, we made a lot of decisions and ideas of how the information and order should the prototype be. In the end we chose the color orange so as to be able to blend in well with the logo of the organisation.

Guest Speaker if the Day -
“Lionel Chin is the co-founder of Ripplewerkz, which is an all in one design house which offers high quality Web, Blog, Print and Corporate ID development. Boasting an impressive portfolio of projects such as Nuffnang, Prominent bloggers/Celebrities (eg. Allan Wu (The Amazing Race Asia), Wong Lilin (Mediacorp), Nico Chua (FM 933 DJ), Lunch Actually, Airtrade and The Eurasian Association (Singapore) etc, the name Lionel Chin certainly resonates in the digital industry.”
5 KEY POINTS MENTIONED:
1. The working world in this society is more tougher than what we students think.
I agree with what the speaker said about this as we need to depend on ourselves in a way to “fight” to get a place for ourselves and in school, things are provided for you whereas in the society, you have to know how to socialize well and also work on very hard in order to impress the people there. It is like a fighting for survival in the wroking realm.
2. It is better to start off as a freelancher.
Through freelanch, we can get many experiences and as well as people and also gain our conficence as more and more people appreciate or work and it is a good way to start.
3. Twitter is an important new media tool right now in society.
I find this quite true as more and more people are using it to advertise themselves and their work through tweeting tjhe links up for people to take a look and more and more business people are using it as a tool to reach out to people and get attention from new “customers”. And by advertising, more people will be aware of what you are doing and those interested can follow you for more details.
4. Portfolio is very important.
Our portfolio is important to us as this is the thing that will help us to gain our clients trust in a way. With the portfolio, the clients will be able to see the compilation of work the person did. At the same time, it will help you to be able to work with your client easier as things can be done more quickly if there is any changes made after discussion with the clients of how things can de done.
5. You need to learn how to market ourselves.
This is one of the skills that we need to learn in order to increase your presence in te society. Many people are doing the same thing as you are doing in this society, you need to have this skills so that people will be able to know about you and this helps you a lot in this competition of the working world.
3 THINGS THAT INSPIRED ME
1. Him.
It is really something to see a young guy of an age gap not that far away from others to be able to be so successful in our society and moreover, a TP student once.
2. The amount of revenue that can be earned.
It really inspires me as it gives me an impression not to despise your youth as you may not know what your e.g design talent ( as a web designer) can help you to earn that much. It is not about age, but your skills and experience.
3. about blogs.
The speaker gave me a different perspective about a blog. As most people use it as a personal “diary” where they would link their frends and read each other’s blog. But from this presentation, I got to know that actually a blog vcan help someone earn money too, other than blogshops.
The presentatiion of the day was really very useful as not only does the speaker talks about the “tips and tricks”, which can help us by alot by knowing it and doing it in our near future. We also get a clear picture of how the society flows thorugh his sharing of his personal experience and it is through this personal teatimonial that will really convince us and inspire us to study and work hard in school for our near future.
“Hot” and “Cool” Media
When you first see this two terms “hot” and “cool” media. What do you think of?
What exactly does these terms really mean?
Does it really mean hot as in popular? or cool as in “in” thing kind of media?
“Hot” media
Hot media are generally, but not absolutely, visual media; for example, print occupies visual space and is “hot”. Hot media favor analytical precision, quantitative analysis and sequential ordering, as they are usually sequential, linear and logical. They emphasize one sense (for example, of sight or sound) over the others. For this reason, hot media also include radio, as well as film, lecture and photograph.
“Cool” media
Cool media are usually, but not always, associated with the sense of hearing. They require more active participation on the part of the user, including the perception of abstract patterning and simultaneous comprehension of all parts. Cool media, according to McLuhan, therefore include television, as well as the seminar and cartoons.

increasing the awareness of non profitable organization in Singapore
It is good that non profitable organizations have their own websites to promote what they are doing and it is really a good thing to have such organisations to meet the needs of those in need in this society of ours.
However, it is not enough as this kind of awareness only applies to those who know about and people who heard of it and therefore, not well – known to the majority of people in the society.
How is it possible to increase the presence of the kind acts of these organizations and to allow the society to play a part in it?
Canossavile Children’s Home
Background
Canosavile was first established as an orphanage in 1941 with the aim of providing care and attention to male and female orphans. In later years, it became a home for girls from single-parent families and troubled homes.
In 1983, the Student Care Centre (previously known as Before and After School Care Service) was introduced to cater to the rising numbers of school-going children left unsupervised at home during the day.
Canossaville is affliliated to Caritas Singapore Community Council and the National Council of Social Service. It was registered as a Charity under the Charities Act on 29 June 1987. Charity Registration Number is 0462.
With effect from 1 January 1997, it became a voluntary welfare organisation authorised to receive tax-exempt donations under the NCSS Central Fund (General Fund) Scheme. Current effective date: 1July 2007 to 30 September 2011.
Aims and Objectives
To provide shelter and integrated services to young children and adolescents who are at risk or who lack adequate family support for their well-being and development

In order to make a greater awareness to this organization, in my opinion, they can try to use new media such as twitter or applitions like the facebook to advertise their organization. Although it may sound impossible as facebook advertisements are ignored by the majority, there is also the minority that will pay attention to it and you might not know, this can be spread from one person to another like a chain.
Similarly to twitter, it can do the same thing too. As one person tweets about it,or put a widget about it, they can introduce it to their friends and family members and their friends will show it to their people and somehow links to some entreprenuers of a big company etc. Though chances are slim, but why not give it a try?
About communication.
Just writing what I’ve learnt in school, during NMT tutorial. It is about communications. I didnt know communication has a process until then. I have learnt a lot about communication during lesson.
Firstly, I learnt about the communication process. in this, there is a communication model, which is like a cycle. The messenger will then encode his message, in other word convey his messaeg with either words, behaviour or body language that can help him to communicate best to the receiver. The message will thengo through a channel such as face – to – face or phone conversation, letter, e-mail etc. The receiver will then decode the message using canventions, cultural or contextual background and language skills.
Secondly, it is about interference. The receiver might not be able to get the intent of what the messager wants to communicate to the person proplerly. And this is when poor communication occurs. That is why sometimes when you send a mssage through your handphone to your friend, it may cause misunderstanding if you emphasize the wrong word in your message.
There was also another article given to us to read, which is about Claude Shannon (1916 – 2001).It os something similar of what i just shared. In this article, it tells us about his thoery towards commmunication. One of the thing that got my attention is the two factors, the interference : physical noise and semantic noise. Examples of physical noise are roar of passing traffic, interference on a radio broadcast, poor TV reception etc. Examples of semantic noise are distraction that will distract you from paying attention to the mesenger, inability to translate the message, incorrect emphasize, attitude to the sender and to the message. This two factors reminded me of how I am misunderstood by my friend and how misunderstanding occurs.
In conclusion, I enjoyed the lesson and this helps me to better communicate with my friends and family members. Really did not expect whatever i learnt in school can be applied in my other areas of life too. So people, school can be interesting too if you see it in a different pespective.
literature review
As I look through the different article to choose for the literature review, something caught my eye:
The future of Twitter
You can check out the content here: http://mashable.com/2009/11/01/future-of-twitter/
I find this very interesting because more and more people are using tweeter. Even people like celebrities and politicians use it. It can be a potential to impact greatly in the next few years and generation.
In this article, it mainly speaks about the predictions about how Twitter will expand in the future. This makes me put on my thinking cap and think. As i watched the 18 mins plus video, I learnt many possibilities of how Twitter will be like in the coming future.
1. It will reach masses of people.
2.The masses wont do the same tools as we do.
3. Status updates will be open across social softwares
4. we will laugh thinking we were updating all social software manually
5. Twitter will still be dominant – the motherboard where we plug in (status updates)
6. Social graph * will also be open.
* graph that shows interconnections among people.
7. Twitter will be big to get an idea of a person or of a brand reputation.
8. Number of followers and infuence of retweeting also allows you to think like that person thinks (reputation)
9.it will replace sms for millions of people – dun need to remember numbers and is portable and archives across devices
10. Twitter might replace Chat for many people – Twitter lists is very similar to a public chat room
11. Location will be one of the top status updates
12. Private updates bigger than public updates
13. Public ecommerce status updates would not work
14.Talking to shops and restaura via Twitter will become standard and will get a coupon as we enter a shop, based on location
15. Web will be a fraction of mobile use
16. Dating over status updates would not be big
17. Twitter would not display advertisements in main feed
18. There will be more devices publishing updates than humans Wifi scales, planes, trains, cars
19. Corporations will have entire teams devoted to Twitter and status updates
20. Hyperlocal news sites with Twitter geotagging feature
21. Google will have its own Twitter and would not acquire Twitter
22. Internal Enterprise Twitter will become standard
23. Google and Bing will be the dominant ways to search Twitter
24. Vertical Twitter applications will start to appear – Stocktweets is the first one
25. Twitter will remain mostly used outside of Twitter.com
26. It will really be about you
Out of the possible reasons, I agree to them in a way as you might not know what it can do in the future and through the Twitter trend we are in now In fact, there is quite a big possibilitiy. In fact,I identified one in the list that is happening now ( Twitter will remain mostly used outside of Twitter.com). However, the future depends on what you do everyday with your life, to the society now because the future is the result or consequences of what our generation do now. If more a more people uses Twitter as the years goes by with and the same thinking as what the person thinks in the video on how people will use and react to it , Twitter will become what it is assumed in the list of possibilities above .
In my opinion, I realised more and more people are into Twitter as it is more convenient for people to update about themselves to their friends and family and in a faster way. Therefore, it has the potential to greatly impact the society of the next generation where you can see people using Twitter, relying on Twitter eveywhere you go.Twitter will then be a common thing. However, this is only to the majority. What about the minority? Will this great impact be a good or a bad thing for them? How will this change affect the developing country/s?
In conclusion, the article indeed makes us think of the future development of new media and allows us to see how our future may become and at the same time prepares us and allows us to be aware of the impact that will change the routine of life between this generation and the next generation. However, the future of Twitter depends on the populations’ responses and reactions to it.
